Palm OS/WinMo Hardware

All my previous Palm products (Vx, Tungsten C, E, Treo 680, etc) when inserted in the charging cradle, would charge the battery whether the computer was turned on or not (because of the power plug input to the charging cradle).  My Treo Pro charges with the wall charger, as well as when plugged via the usb connection to the computer, whether using the cradle or not, but requires the computer power to be on.  I've tried using a powered usb hub between the computer and the cradle/device, so my computer does not have to stay on the whole time, but this doesn't seem to work.... the charge indicator does not come on.  Any work around such as this I can use to charge the device in the cradle without the computer power being on all the time.  I'm surprised the powered hub didn't work (D-link 7 port usb 2.0).

Besides using the charger to charge the phone, the PC will need to be on to use the trickle charge method.  Some motherboards can allow continous current even if PC is shut down but cleary your PC does not have such motherboard.  The reason why your powered usb hub is not charging the phone is that the hub itself regulates power by "On Demand" and that demand is active data xfers from A to B or vice versa.  So if no data is moving, then there will be insufficient power from that usb port to initiate a trickle charge.

I've searched in vain so far. And I've looked hard. Perhaps you can tell or direct me, since you've owned a no. of Palms.

Does Tungsten C have usb 1.1 or 2.0 (enhanced)?

Is there a solution for Treo Pro users looking for a charging method that does not require us to unplug the USB cable from the Powered USB hub and into the power adapter when our PC's or Laptop are powered off?
