PALM PLEASE FIX THE EMERGENCY CALLING.*************** My phone unless i hit the off button will call 911. I had the police station call me back asking if i needed assistance. It was hard to answer the call back. But more importantly it is a waste of their time. Please make an option so i can turn it off. Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

I have the same problem with my Pre. Honestly it's an ergonomics issue if anything. For example, if you unlock your Pre and have a PIN enabled, and if it's in your left hand (i use my phone lefty) and you slide the cover up, your thumb hits "Emergency Call". It's very *very* easy to do. I've called 911 once and had a half-dozen other close calls to 911. The Emergency call button should be located somewhere farther UP on the interface away from where someone would slide the phone open with their thumb and one hand. I should also add another condition where this may also occur. Assuming there is a PIN enabled, if I unlock the phone once but fail to put in a pin and let it just sit there, eventually the screen will go black. However, the Pre won't automatically re-lock. After then, if I press the power button and mindlessly use my left thumb to unlock the phone (again, with a tendency to be on the left side of the screen), the first button pressed is Emergency Call. This also presents another situation where 911 can inadvertently be called. Travis Message Edited by ttmcmurry on 06-15-2009 04:40 PM

Let me add to this one as I need a resolution as well. I called 911 this morning, they called back, and they sent a police officer to my house. I love my Pre and brag it up to all the iPhone guys, BUT I don’t want my Pre to cry wolf any more! Here are the specifics: 1) My company’s EAS policy causes my phone to lock after 3 minutes 2) I used my phone alarm clock which I normally don’t do 3) Alarm goes off 4) When I try to unlock the phone at the pin screen, the screen opens slowly 5) When I thought I hit the first digit of my pin, it starts dialing 911 6) I try hanging up repeatedly by touching the screen continuously 7) It is slow to hang up and actually dials 911 again…alarm still going off 8) Again I try hanging up repeatedly by touching the screen continuously 9) I finally get it unlocked and turn off the alarm when the police call me back I have a Palm OS 5 fix for this one. When you press Emergency dial it should bring up the dial pad and allow you to dial 911 manually just like in the previous Palm OS. With my Treo 755P I even had the ability to add a couple additional emergency numbers I was “allowed” to dial. These numbers are not visible from the dialer portion so nobody can use your phone unless they know what numbers are in this “allowed” list.

Guys, This happened to me 5 times this past one month. I try to unlock and phone calls 911. PALM SHOULD FIX THIS ISSUE ASAP. I don't want weekely visits form cops. Phone is good but there is lot to improve. I made a mistake getting this phone on day one. I should have waited. I will wait a week or two and if I don't see a fix for this I will go for a different phone and Spring better give me a pretty good deal on the new phone unless they want one of their loyal customer to switch to some other carrier.
