I have been having an issue where outgoing mail does not send. Each time I try to send mail, I recieve the error message, "Email Application Alert: Error sending "..." ". I contacted the utoronto tech staff and they are also confused as to why the setup is not working correctly. As there is no specific Palm Pre setup on their website I went by the Iphone settings, which should work correctly: Setting up your UTORmail account - Tap Settings on the home screen:
- Scroll down and tap Mail:
- Tap Add Account:
- Select Other (last option):
- Tap IMAP:
- Fill out the information fields as follows:
* Address: Your @utoronto.ca email address - Incoming Mail Server
- Host Name: mailboxN.utcc.utoronto.ca (where N is replaced with your UTORmail configuration number)
- User Name: your UTORid
- Password: Your Password
- Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
- Host Name: smtp.utoronto.ca
- User Name: Your UTORid
1. Scroll down and tap Advanced.
2. The following screen will appear - Incoming Settings
- Use SSL: ON.
- Authentication: Password.
- Server Port 993
- Outgoing Settings
- Use SSL: ON.
- Authentication: Password.
- Server Port 587
Any information on how to fix this would be appreciated.

Normally, if you send out using SSL, you use port 465, and if you send out without SSL, you use port 587. Can you try port 465? == Edit == I found the University's instructions for various mail clients. The pattern seems to be SSL ==> 465, TLS ==> 587. If the Pre supports TLS, try switching the encryption method from SSL to TLS and using port 587. Any luck? Message Edited by Jeffro on 11-03-2009 03:50 PM
