Activesync Problems with Treo Pro

I already had activesync 4.5 installed on my desktop running XP Pro. When I connected the Treo via USB, I got the screen advising me that the Treo was connecting with my desktop to install the sync software. I saw the driver wizard in the taskbar. It ran, and I was then advised that a driver had been installed and to reboot the desktop. At this point the Treo was still connected to the desktop via usb, and still waiting for a connection.

 

I rebooted the desktop as instructed. When it was fully booted, I heard the ding from the Treo and it started the white screen to configure active sync. I could hear the "clunk" prompt from my desktop as the Treo connected with it... but the Treo continued to be stalled at the white screen, waiting to connect with the desktop. Nothing further happened.

 

Just for fun, I ran through the connection wizard on the desktop to see if the Treo would connect via USB. No soap. The Treo showed up in My computer, but if its icon is clicked, nothing happens.

 

So, not to be outdone, I had the Treo search for my desktop and it found the bluetooth radio in that machine, and isntalled the activesync bluetooth profile. I was able to sync via bluetooth with no problems.

 

But I still cannot connect via usb. Seems like the usb driver never installed correctly the first time. Any suggestions for fixing would be appreciated.

 

BTW-- I have tried several other times, after rebooting the desktop, to connect. The Treo dings to commence the activesync set up, you can hear the XP sound prompt that it has connected with the desktop, and the process gets repeated , but no connection ever occurs.

Go to Start then Settings on the device. Locate virtual cd. Inside make sure the Treo is set to Sync.

Bingo! I changed the setting from "Set Up My PC" to "Syncronize" and it connected via USB immediately. I consider the issue to be fully resolved. Thank you very much!

The Treo Pro has two USB modes. If it is presenting the PC popup, it is behaving like a virtual drive and it cannot ActiveSync. Once the install process completes, the Treo Pro automatically flips the switch back to regular Windows Mobile RNDIS identity - so that the Treo Pro looks like a USB network card again.

 

So this post shows that the device has two personalities from a USB persepctive. You can never synch if the popup "PC Setup" is active in your Settings. It has to be set to Synchonize. It should be a rare occasion that you would have to switch this manually.

Had the same problem (After installing up the Active sync on PC could not sync. )

This is how I made it work:

On treo device : Start -> Settings - Connections -> USB to PC : UNcheck "Enable advanced network functionality".

Wait for 10 seconds. You should be connected. If not make sure you have "Synchronize" chosen in  Start -> Settings -> System -> PC setup.

As crazy as it sounds. I spent two hours trying to get my Treo Pro to sync. It turned out, I was plugging in the black USB cable for my camera. It's an easy mistake anyone could make.

Hello,

 

I have a problem with activesync with my Treo Pro. Everything is configured as you all say in this page but when my device tries to sync with my pc using Windows XP PRO, it returns a message say that : "... To syncronize this device you need to install ActiveSync 4.5 or superior version in your desktop..."

 

This is strange because i have already this version in my desktop!! I had uninstall it and install it again but the device is always showing this message?

 

Anyone had this problem? Can you help me on this?
