Adding music files (.mp3) to my Palm Centro

Hi all!

I just purchased a Palm Centro under an AT&T/Cingular contract.

Still trying to learn the ins and outs of the phone as well as the applications. I've physically transferred my 2Gb memory card over to my Centro from my Nokia 6126. On the disk were some images as well as .mp3 files. At the moment, I can access those files on my Palm device, but I can't seem to access/manipulate those files through the Palm Desktop application (I'm connected through the USB data cable). I'd like to be able to add more music, delete music, etc., but when I go to the Media window on Palm Desktop, I'm only allowed to add pictures (.jpg, .gif, etc.) and certain sound/video files (.mp4, .m4g, .wmv, etc.) files. However, .mp3's are not a part of that supported file list.

Is there additional software that I need to download in order to attain this capability? It seems as though I should be able to do that now... but no cigar. :smileysad:

Thanks!

Re: Adding music files (.mp3) to my Palm Centro

Hello lahilani and welcome to the Palm forums.

To listen to the .mp3 files, you need to use the Pocket Tunes (pTunes) application. You can sync music from your Windows Media Player library to your Centro. pTunes will also be looking for .mp3 files on your SD card in the Audio folder, which should be located on the root level of your SD card. (Use a card reader attached to your computer to manually move the folder if required and to manually add .mp3 files if you wish.)

The Images can be managed from the Media application. As with the Audio folder for the .mp3 files, the images need to be in the DCIM folder, also on the root level of the SD card.

:smileyhappy:On the web look for program called Mini Tones, it's the best! Once you get music on your phone you can chop them and add them as ringtones. Try this site but you can also search it out for others. The only thing is you will need an SD card which arent' that expensive around $10 - $20 I'd guess.

Good Luck!!

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.

Mini Tones is used for creating ringtones out of mp3 files.  The original question on this rather old thread had nothing to do with ringtones, so I'm curious why you posted this information here.

Re: Adding music files (.mp3) to my Palm Centro

Okay I figured this out.  First attach your phone using the USB cable open ptunes on your phone.  Then, on your computer open the music file(s) you want to add highlight those files and right click, you should see an option that says "send to" highlight that and some more options should pop up, one of which should be Palm Powered (TM) Handheld, or something to that effect click on that "Auto Play" options should appear in a new window on your computer select "open device to view files" in here you will have the option of selecting internal memory or your memory card, make the choice that works best for you.  The last step is to drag whatever files you wish into this spot, it will transfer the files lickity split and you will be enjoying tastey jams in no time... a bit more complex than it should be, but beats having to take your memory card out every time you want to add your favorite Hall and Oates songs... hope this does it for you.
