Hotsync loop despite having reset multiple times

My Treo 680 is stuck in a Hotsync loop and I don't know what to do about it. I've reset (hard and soft) several times to no avail. Any ideas?

Hello aimless.

I'm not sure what you mean by "HotSync loop". Does your Palm want to continuously start a HotSync as soon as one completes? Goes your Palm get stuck during a HotSync?

I would try some basic troubleshooting. Note the settings in HotSync Manager and then turn off all the conduits by setting them to "Do Nothing." Then turn one conduit on and then try to HotSync. Keep turning one conduit on and then HotSync until you find the conduit that is causing the problem.

'Does your Palm want to continuously start a HotSync as soon as one completes?' is what I meant by looping. I tried the method of troubleshooting you suggested and my treo seems to have overridden the fact that I turned off the conduits. :smileysad:

Re: Hotsync loop despite having reset multiple times

You may have a hardware problem. If a soft reset doesn't do anything for you, I would think about calling your carrier and getting a replacement phone under your hardware protection plan.

When was the last time you performed a successful HotSync? Is there any data on the Palm that isn't synchronized with the computer? If all of your data is on the computer, I would try a hard reset before you call the carrier.

Just keep in mind that a hard reset will erase all of the data and applications that you have put on the Palm and restore it to the factory default settings. At that point, I would try to HotSync again and see what happens.

I am having the exact same problem. Did a hard reset several times. It started doing this intermittently after I installed the latest ATT patch/security. It's as if a button is being continuously pressed (the soft "ding" sound). After I did the hard reset, it would button through the setup, and stopped only at the first phase when trying to calibrate the stylus with the target. I've seen people having the same problems on other forums as well, with 650s too. Edit: To expand on my problem, the last time this happened I took out my phone and navigated to to the apps using the Home button. When I used my stylus to click on Google Maps, it reset itself (Palm screen-soft reset). After that, it went into the HotSync loop. Still is and its unusable to send or receive calls. blah. I'm a single mom and this is my only phone. Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, this is really strange but I was desperate and I went to crack open my Treo and as soon as I turned the screw not even a notch(with a special screwdriver head I got from the hardware store), it stopped looping! This could be random but if it was a hardware issue that was causing the main nav button to depress, it could have alleviated the pressure. I guess I'll have to wait to see if it starts looping again.

EDIT: It synched and started looping again. I guess I should have made my calls before I synched. I am not happy. The iPhone is looking better and better. The 650 hotsynch loop issue from another forum is here: http://www.everythingtreo.com/forum/general-treo-discussion/hot-sync-loop-help-7349.html

OK, this is really going to sound weird, but did you look at the HotSync button on the HotSync cable? I had this same issue a few days ago. When I was disconnecting my Treo from the cable, I inadvertently got the HotSync button jammed under the plastic housing. When I connected my TX or Treo 700p to my computer it would immediately start a HotSync and as soon as it would finish a new one would start. When I pulled the Treo and TX off the cable the current HotSync session would time out and then the cycle would be broken. When I looked at the cable I realized what had happened and popped the button back out. Did you guys maybe do the same thing?

Re: Hotsync loop despite having reset multiple times

That's definitely not my problem. The treo wants to hotsync even when nothing is attached, and when it is attached the cycle of hotsyncing just keeps going. I think it's a hardware issue now, I'll see what I can do.
