I have owned this Palm Pre for less than one day and the screen cracked. I just pressed the center button and the entire screen cracked all the way up to its top. based on my experience I fully expect to this kind of problem posted frequently. I mean, less than one (1) day of ownership for a very expensive phone and it BREAKS? Design Flaw, poor engineering or otherwise, this is totally unacceptable. I'll keep you posted on Sprint and Palm's customer service.
UPDATE: Sprint finally delivered. After many phone calls, (six calls to different departments at Sprint) finding someone in tech support who acknowledged the screen cracking as a known issue, then placement on a 10 day waiting list, I finally received a new phone. All seems good with this one. After a couple of weeks use, the phone is still working without any screen cracks or battery issues. Thanks to Sprint for finally working out the problem ![]()

I have exactly the same problem - and I have no idea how it happened. I have about 6 cracks that seem to start at the top of the button and run all the way up the screen, fanning out at they go up. It look exactly like there was a lot of pressure put right at the point of the button. The display works fine, but the touch does not - thus the phone is unusable.
Does the OP have any pictures to share? You can see pics of mine at:

Exact same thing happened to me, had the pre at 915 am on saturday, went home, charged it, played around for a bit, and all the sudden there is a huge crack with fanning cracks on the left and right coming up from the center button, I did absolutely nothing, didnt drop it, didnt hit it, etc.. just a cracked screen. I immediately went back tt Sprint Store, and first thing they do is call me a liar and that i had to have droppped it or hit it, nice customer service allready , then they tell me well you have to pay a 100$ co-pay for physical damage, they say cracked screen , no matter what i say, is physical damage caused by me, sounds like a sleeze ball car mechanic!! After complaining in front of other customers for a good 15-20 minutes the manager finally comes over and says they will get me a replacement by tuesday as they have no more in stock. Great, but no so great, i call Sprint Customer support on a hunch that the store was full of crap, i spent 3-4 hours on Sunday talking to nearly 7 representatives at Sprint, most of whom were all disgustingly rude to me, mind you i have been a sprint customer for almost 10 years, and they basically tell me well there is no guarantee you will get your new pre on tuesday, and that all i can do is hope. So i say ok well i dont want the pre i want another phone, and they sorry we cant give you a refund, and we cant do an exchange either because it is a PRE and the PRE has special rules within the Sprint CS team. So here I am Monday and i guess ill go back to the store on Tuesday, but seriously if the touchscreen can crack this easily with little or no use this is an enormous issue of epic proportions. I wouldnt mind dealing with a bad battery if i had a touchscreen to even look at!!! So PALM is at fault for making a flawed device and releasing it to the public without proper QA, and Sprint continues to have the worst Customer Service on this continent. I think ill take my pre (if i get it) on tuesday and return it, leave sprint, bring them to small claims court for the cost of my 6 hours i spent talking to them about their faulty phone and poor CS, and then go get the phone i should have gotten 2 years ago, iPhone.
Cheers
Jeremy-

This is indeed a little concerning.
Does this cracked screen ignore your insurance, if you have it?
I don't mind keeping the phone if the kinks are fixed.
Actually, I think I will return it the 21st of June (11 more days)
if the battery issue isn't publicly being worked on, and I have no more complaints.
And if the cracked screen issue is covered by insurance ![]()
